Final Theses at the Chair of Sustainability Management
At our chair, Bachelor's and Master's theses are supervised. We accept both empirical and conceptual topics, but please note that the workload for both will be about the same. Even if you want to focus on a topic that is particularly relevant to practice, your thesis must have a solid theoretical foundation and meet the requirements of a scientific paper.
Below is an overview of current topics for Bachelor’s and Master’s theses at our Chair. These topics reflect our ongoing research projects and current areas of interest in sustainability management.
- Modern slavery and labour exploitation in various industries.
- Precarious work and “dirty” work.
- Circular economy models for reducing microplastics.
- Mitigating and reducing microplastic in the environment – Corporate responsibility or greenwashing?
- (In)justice and sustainability: Analyzing how different actors (e.g., buyers, suppliers, communities) perceive supply chain practices and behaviors from a fairness viewpoint, and understanding how these perceptions influence social, environmental, and economic outcomes.
- Global South: Examining how sustainability is framed, implemented, or contested in supply chains located in the Global South (e.g., Brazil). Projects should integrate critical perspectives (e.g., worker voice) and draw on primary data collected with marginalized stakeholders.
- Social media analytics: Qualitatively exploring how social media content (e.g., X [Twitter] and podcasts) can generate insights for sustainability decision making in supply chains.
- Short food supply chains: Analyzing local and regional food production and distribution (e.g., Bavaria) from a critical perspective (e.g., human capabilities), with a focus on how these supply chains promote transparency and social and environmental justice.
- Circular supply chains: Analyzing how fairness perceptions influence circularity and contribute to promoting sustainability, especially for marginalized stakeholders (e.g., waste pickers).
- Medical care centers: Examining if different concepts and sponsors (e.g. private equity, municipal) can contribute to ensuring sustainable primary care (through factors like working conditions, qualifications, co-determination, representation of interests, etc.).
